About the Name

Tula is named after Unión de Tula, a town in Jalisco, Mexico. Each letter in the name “Tula” represents the family names of the four founders, who came together to create the town: Topete, Villaseñor, Lazcano and Arreola.

Like the town, Tula is about coming together. It exists thanks to the collaborative efforts of many individuals, including talented chefs, artisans, designers, and consultants. Tula thrives thanks to the Fayetteville community and guests, who gather around our tables to enjoy food and each other’s company.

Staying true to our name, the space, branding, and many of the menu offerings are inspired by Jalisco, the coastal state where all tequila comes from.

Authentic Mexican Food

Located in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, Tula is a local Mexican restaurant specializing in authentic dishes, tequila, and mezcal. Perfect for special occasions, date night, or exploring traditional Mexican cuisine, Tula offers a cultured and unique dining experience in Northwest Arkansas.

Tula’s menu features simple, authentic Mexican cuisine made with seasonal ingredients sourced from the Ozarks and surrounding region. Using fresh, regional ingredients not only elevates the flavors of our food but also helps support our local farmers.

Many of the entrees are complex dishes that are served for special occasions, allowing you to explore Mexico’s vast landscape of culinary traditions. Enjoy homemade mole, deconstructed tacos, and tamales, or try something you’ve never heard of before! Our servers are happy to help you learn about the food.

Tula also offers a unique selection of tequilas and mezcals. Both spirits are steeped in tradition and vary subtly depending on the agave and distilling method. We love introducing guests to the world of tequila and mezcal. Be sure to keep an eye out for our special tasting events.

Tula’s Founders

Tula is locally owned by Juan Bahena and Rodney Barnes. Their idea began as a fast and casual restaurant concept and became a cultured dining experience that grew from Tula’s namesake. Both come from a construction background and worked closely with a number of incredible consultants to bring their vision to life.
